Abstract

Abstract Background: Study of the nursing and midwifery instructors and students viewpoints, as two important groups in teaching proccess, can be effect on codifying and evaluating of educational program and effectiveness in this courses. The purpose of this study was to determine the effective educational and evaluation program on clinical learning from the nursing and midwifery instructors and students’ opinion in Arak University of Medical Sciences, 2008. Materials and Methods: In a descriptive study in 2008, all students and clinical lecturer (n=84) were studied. The data gathering tool was a questionnaire consisted of three parts, demographic information, clinical education and evaluation program. Results: The age mean of the teachers and students respectively were 38±3.14, 22.2±2.18 years and the mean of theoretical and clinical history teaching of instructors, respectively, were 6.04±2.48 and 10./95±2.9 years. The most percents of instructors (91.3%) emphasized on considering the communicating skills education in education program. The most percents of students (85.2%) emphasized on considering the critical thinking and moral students support. Also, the most percents of instructors (78.3%) emphasized on step by step evaluation. While, the most percents of students (90.2%) emphasized on the effect of teachers evaluation and reflected the results to them. Conclusion: Hope to, this study results can be helpful to effective nursing and midwifery students’ lesson planning and evaluating.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Necessary to making constant revisions in the continuous education programs and updating the physicians’ knowledge in accord to the needs of society seems to be essential. The present study was conducted to conformity of continuous educational programs’ content of radiology department with needs of Continuous medical education learners, Markazi province, 2008. Materials and Methods: In this cross- sectional study, in 2008, the opinions of 40 physicians falling under continuous medical education (CME) were collected through a questionnaire on a Likert scale in more than 30 instructional topics. Before educational program performance, priorities in education were assessed and after performance, rate of coverage and requirements conformity with content was determined. Results: The most educational need was indication of chest x-Ray with mean of 4.21 and the less need was wrist MRI with mean of 2.42. After program performance, the greatest conformity of needs with educational content was indication of mammography (mean= 83.1) and wrist and shoulder MRI (mean=53.2) which was the least required. Though, there was a general correlation between need and content coverage in both areas of graph indication order and interpretation, but was not base on priority needs. There was significant relationship between physicians needs with educational needs (p<0.001). But about gender and work experience was not significant relationship. Conclusion: Lake of complete coverage of needs base on educational priority of CMS learners will seek greater attention and emphasis or scientific secretary and lecturer on needs in special educational objectives frame for accelerating of continuous education effectiveness.

Abstract

Background: Cardiac rehabilitation is one of the essential components of caring in cardiac patients both in hospital and community. Therefore, this study was carried out to determine the effects of cardiac rehabilitation program on the quality of life in patients with myocardial infarction. Materials and Methods:This clinical trial was conducted on two groups (experimental and control). Thirty patients with myocardial infarction at Heart Center Hospital of Sari were randomly assigned to each group. The experimental group participated in the Home-based Cardiac Rehabilitation Program (3 visits at home in weeks 4, 8, and 12) however, the control group did not receive any intervention. Data were collected via demographic data and SF-36 quality of life questionnaires and patients’ home-based health behaviors checklist. Data analysis was done by Chi Square, ANOVA and Mann-Whitney tests using SPSS software version 16. Results: The two groups were homogenous in terms of demographic characteristics. The patients’ quality of life increased in the experimental group in physical and mental dimensions and in total before and after the intervention (P<0.001). In addition, the comparison of the quality of life showed a significant difference between experimental and control groups (P<0.001). Conclusion: Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at home can improve the quality of life in these patients therefore, its implementation is recommended.

Abstract

Background: Programmed death 1 (PDCD1), a negative T-cell regulator which induces peripheral tolerance, belongs to Ig super and CD28/CTLA-4 families. PD-1 gene induces negative signals in T-cells during interaction with its ligands. Thus the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between PD-1 polymorphism and the risk of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in Iranian patients and healthy controls. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, genomic DNA was extracted from the whole blood samples using DNA purification kit (DNG-plus, Cinnagen, Iran). PD1.1G/A as a SNP located on promoter with position -536 were genotyped for 120 RA patients and 188 healthy controls through PCR-RFLP method. Association of genotypes and alleles frequency in the patients was compared with controls and analyzed using Chi-square test and 2×2 contingency table in SPSS software version 15.0. The diagnosis of RA patients and provision of their clinical information was done in Rheumatology Research Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. Results: The A allele of the PD1.1 polymorphism located on the promoter of PD-1 gene was significantly more frequent in Iranian RA patients than the controls (p=0.04). There were no significant differences in PD1.1G/G genotype (p=0.08), PD1.1A/A genotype (p=0.39), and PD1.1G/A genotype (p=0.16) between RA cases and controls. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed the presence of a significant relationship between the A allele of the PD1.1 (-536) of the promoter and susceptibility to RA in Iranian patients.

Abstract

Background: Brucellosis, especially if caused by Brucella melitensis, remains one of the most common zoonotic diseases worldwide with more than 500,000 human cases reported annually. In Iran, brucellosis was first recognized in 1932 and control of small ruminant brucellosis began in 1963. The aim of this study is to give an overview of the National Sheep and Goat Brucellosis Control Program in Iran. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, data were collected from Iran Veterinary Organization over a period of 45 years. The national control program was based on kid and lamb vaccination and testing and slaughtering infected animals. Results: B.melitensis biotype I in sheep, goat, and man was the predominant local infective biotype. This disease was reported in sheep, goat, cattle, horse, camel, and human. In addition, the prevalence of small ruminant brucellosis was estimated around 2.1%. Conclusion: Prevention of brucellosis is dependent upon increasing public awareness of ranchers through health education programs and more active co-operation between health and veterinary medicine organizations as well as animal movement control in the borders.

Abstract

Background: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and degenerative disease of the central nervous systemthat due to such reasons as its chronic nature, no prognosis, and absence of a definitive treatment causes stress in patients. Thus, this study was designed to examine the impact of peer educational program on stress in patients with multiple sclerosis in 2011. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial, 110 patients with multiple sclerosis were randomly allocated to test and control groups (each group including 55 patients). After preparing 5 multiple sclerosis patients as the peer group, six training sessions forthe test group were held by the peer group over two months. Data collection tool was DASS 21 questionnaire that assessed patients’ stress before and after 4 months which was completed by both groups. In order to analyze the results, SPSS software 16 was used. Results: The results showed that before intervention, there was not astatistically significant difference between the two groups in stress score(p=0.24) while a statistically significant difference was seen between the two groups after intervention (p=0.001). Also, stress score in test group was statistically significant (p=0.001) but there was not a statistically significant difference between the stress scores of the patients in the control groups (p=0.39). Conclusion: Peer group educational program caused stress reduction in patients with multiple sclerosis. Hence, it is recommended that peer groups be used for education of multiple sclerosis.

Abstract

Abstract
Background: Learning disorders, especially dysgraphia, are among the students' educational disabilities. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of two intervention methods of neurofeedback training and the movement program on the handwriting performance of 9-11 years old children with dysgraphia.
Materials and Methods: This was a quasi-experimental comparative study with a
pretest-posttest design. Thirty right-handed boy students aged 9 to 11 years old were selected from elementary and middle schools (district 4) in Karaj, based on the dysgraphia Fallahchai test. Participants were randomly divided into three groups each included 10 subjects. The movement program group did activities with emphasis on visual-motor coordination, fine motor control, visual-motor integrity, and eye-hand coordination 3 sessions per week, for 4 weeks (total of twelve sessions). The neurofeedback group did a training protocol (decreasing beta wave and increasing alpha wave at C3 zone) in 4 weeks, 3 sessions per week each session for 20 minutes. The control group did not any training intervention.
Results: The data analysis showed that there were significant differences between two groups of intervention and the control group. The two experimental groups had a significant improvement compared to the control group. Also, the results showed that the selected movement program is more effective than neurofeedback training intervention.
Conclusion: Overall, the selected movement program was more effective than the neurofeedback training and control group. Therefore, it is suggested that the movement program intervention should be used to improve the handwriting performance of students with poor handwritten quality.

Abstract

Background and Aim Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) is the most commonly occurring leukemia in adults, accounting for about 30-25% of total leukemia. One of the important etiological causes of this leukemia is the disruption of the Nuclear Factor Kappa B (NF-kB) signaling pathway. The two proteins of Apoptosis-Inducing Ligand (APRIL) and B-Cell Activating Factor (BAFF) play a role in the pathogenesis of this leukemia by affecting the NF-kB signaling pathway. In this study, due to the effect of miRNAs in regulating many cellular processes, the prediction of the prominent miRNAs targeting APRIL and BAFF transcripts in B-cell CLL patients was evaluated using specific and different bioinformatics programs.
Methods & Materials Afterwards retrieving the sequences of APRIL and BAFF proteins from the NCBI website, by using several programs including miRanda, TargetScan, miRWalk, DIANA and miRDB with different algorithms, the prediction of miRNAs targeting these genes was investigated.
Ethical Considerations This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Arak University of Medical Sciences.
Results Based on the scoring system of bioinformatics programs, “hsa-miR-145-5p” and “hsa-miR-185-5p” were identified as miRNAs targeting APRIL gene, while “hsa-miR-424” and “hsa-miR-497”were miRNAs targeting BAFF gene. They were suggested for the practical studies in future.
Conclusion Based on the important role of APRIL and BAFF genes in the normal process of cell death and B-cell evolution, it seems that the mi-RNAs predicted by bioinformatics programs using different algorithms can be used as a diagnostic molecular biomarker to identify B-cell CLL patients.

Abstract

Background and Aim Nosocomial infection is a health problem in all countries. Considering the role of midwives in controlling nosocomial infection, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of an educational intervention based on model on preventive behaviors of nosocomial infection by Babol hospitals midwives was done.
Methods & Materials The present study was a quasi-experimental study with intervention and control group. The interventions were performed in three 40-minute sessions in the Shahid Yahya Nejad Hospital in April and May 2017. The data collection tool was a structure Health Belief Model based(Awareness, structure Health Belief Model and behavior) on a questionnaire completed Its validity and reliability were assessed two months before and one month after Midwives who met the inclusion criteria education. Data were collected and analyzed by SPSS software v. 24 by Anova , T-test and ANCO one-way Covariance tests.
Ethical Considerations This research paper has been approved by the ethics committee IR.IAU.TMU.REC.1398.068 and informed consent will be taken from the participants in the study the information will remain confidential.
Results Before the intervention, the two groups did not differ significantly in terms of, mean scores of different model structures. After intervention, there was a significant difference in the mean and standard deviation of the effect of education on knowledge score (1.0±0.3), perceived sensitivity (2.8±1.5), perceived severity (3.6±1.7) Perceived barriers (-6.4±1.3), perceived benefits (5.1±4), self-efficacy (4.6 ± 2.6) and behavior( 3.1±1.1) was seen in the intervention group (P>0.05).
Conclusion By increasing the scores obtained from the structures Especially self-efficacy and reduction of perceived barriers, designing and implementing an educational program based on model in midwives can increase their performance regarding the prevention of nosocomial infections.
