Abstract

Background: Nowadays, the decline in birth rate is one of the most important social problems in developing societies. Infertility is defined as a failure to conceive in a couple trying to reproduce after one year of regular intercourse without contraception. Leptin have been implicated in maintaining normal female reproductive functions, including lactation, folliculogenesis, ovarian steroidogenesis, the maintenance of mammary gland morphology, the development of dominant follicles and oocytes, the maturation of the uterus endometrium, and menstrual cycle regulation. Sinyle-nucleotide polymorphism T>C found in exon 3 leads to substitution of Arg>Trp at codon 1.5 (R105W). In this case-control study, we aimed to evaluate the association of this polymorphism and the risk of female infertility in the population of Guilan.

Materials and Methods: Blood Samples were collected from 86 patients diagnosed with female infertility and 60 control subjects, and genotyped by allele-specific PCR (AS-PCR). To estimate the association between genotype and allele frequencies in cases and controls, Chi-Square analysis was used.

Results: Analysis revealed no significant differences were found in genotype and allele distributions of LEP Arg105Trp between infertility cases and controls (p=0.21, p=0.2) in this population.

Conclusion: Our findings indicated no significant association between the Arg105Trp polymorphism and female infertility risk (p=0.21). While, more studies are needed to confirm the results.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Physical activity causes the releases of bone resorption indices in the bloodstream by the mechanical load on bone, which in interaction with adipokines reduces obesity and prevent its complications. So, the present study aims to compare the effects of aerobic and resistance exercise on Anthropometric Indices and osteocalcin, leptin, adiponectin levels in overweight men.
Materials and Methods: A total of 40 overweight young healthy men (BMI 28.67±0.96 and age 31.50 ± 2.23) were randomly assigned to control (n = 14), aerobic exercise (n = 13) and resistance exercise (n = 13) groups. Subjects in the exercise group were on 8-week supervised exercise training programme for three sessions per week (aerobic exercise were performed at 60-85% of HRR, and resistance exercise were performed at 55-75% of 1RM). Osteocalcin and adipocytokines (leptin, adiponectin) were assessed from fasting blood samples before and after the 8-week exercise programme. Data were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA.
Ethical Considerations: This study with research ethics code IR.IAU.RASHT.REC.1396.124 has been approved by research ethics committee at Islamic Azad University, Rasht branch, Iran and also has been registered with code IRCT20180226038876N1 at Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT).
Findings: Aerobic and resistance training led to decrease in anthropometric indices (p<0.05), leptin levels (p<0.001, p=0.001) and increase in osteocalcin (p=0.001, p<0.001) and adiponectin (p=0.001, p<0.001), respectively. In addition, the difference between the two training groups was not statistically significant (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Considering to the effects of aerobic and resistance exercise on osteocalcin and adipocytokines level, it seems that both exercise methods can be increasing mechanical load on bone mass and cause to change in energy metabolism and body weight and can be an important factor in decrease of obesity complications.

Abstract

Introduction: Performing aerobic exercise programs during pregnancy will have positive effects on various characteristics related to the health of mother and children. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of aerobic activity of the mother during pregnancy on the levels of leptin hormone in the blood serum of adult rats.
Methods: This research is of an experimental type with a post-test design with a control group, including 20 female rats with an average age of 8 weeks, randomly divided into two training (T) (221 ± 8.9 grams) and control (C). (223±12.8 grams) groups. Pregnancy sports activity was performed immediately after the observation of vaginal plaque for 21 days and for 5 sessions per week with moderate intensity on the treadmill, and it was terminated 2 days before delivery. The comparison of leptin hormone level in two control and exercise groups was analyzed using independent t-test in 8-week-old mice at a significant level of P≥0.05.
Ethical considerations: This study was an experimental and interventional type, and the ethical standards in maintaining and conducting experiments are in accordance with the ethics code of this study (IR.QUMS.REC.1396.288) which has been approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Basic Sciences of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences.
Results: The amount of leptin hormone (p=0.002) in adult rats whose mothers had exercised during pregnancy was significantly lower than the control group, the weight of food consumed by the mother in the last weeks of pregnancy in the group training was less than the control group and the weight of the adult rats in the training group was less than the control group.
Conclusions: It seems that sports activity during pregnancy can have positive effects on weight control and prevention of obesity in adult children.
