Abstract

Background and Aim: Epilepsy is a common brain disorder. Brain function can be affected by the intestinal microflora. The intestinal microflora have a major role in modulating immune responses, producing essential metabolites and mediating neurotransmitters. Antibiotics can affect and reduce these roles and functions by eliminating the intestinal microflora. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of intestinal natural micro flora removal on seizure susceptibility and seizure behavior modification with the use of probiotics in male Wistar rats.
Methods & Materials: This study was performed on 32 male Wistar rats with weight range 200-250 gr. The animals were randomly divided into four groups: 1. Control group; 2. Antibiotic group; 3. Probiotic group and 4. Antibiotic + probiotic group. To remove the microflora, antibiotics (neomycin, ampicillin, and metronidazole) for three weeks and for replacement of microflora, probiotics (Lactobacilli casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum) for four weeks were administered. Seizures were performed by intraperitoneal injection of pentylentrazole. The microflora was examined by the MRS Agar medium and the Pure Plate method. The data were statistically analyzed in Graph Pad Prism V. 8.
Ethical Considerations: This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Arak University of Medical Sciences (Code: IR.ARAKMU.REC.1395.176).
Results: The use of antibiotics lead to decrease the number of intestinal bacteria (P<0.0001), increased the severity and stability of seizure stages (P<0.05) and decreased the time delay of seizure onset (P<0.05) compared to the control group. Probiotic consumption by modifying the intestinal microflora (P<0.0001) reduced the severity of seizure and increased the time delay of seizure onset (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Elimination of microflora has the potential to induce seizures, which can be compensated by administration of probiotics.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Coping with stress is one of the most important research areas in health psychology. Researching in this regard requires a tool with strong psychometric properties and validation in Iranian culture. The purpose of this study was to investigate the most commonly used short-scale factor structure, the Carver’s Brief Cope.
Methods & Materials: This study was a cross-sectional and methodological study of test type. The statistical population consisted of all students studying at Birjand University in 1977-98. Sampling was available by the method. The condition for entry into the study was the experience of a stressor for at least 6 months. After receiving a medium or high score on the perceived stress level, 629 students completed the 28-question form. Data was analyzed using SPSS V. 15 and laser software V. 8.8. Exploratory factor analysis was performed to determine the factor structure of the questionnaire. A confirmatory factor analysis was used to confirming the factors. Reliability was established through retesting and internal consistency.
Ethical Considerations: This study is part of a PhD. thesis, registered (Code: IR.UM.REC. 3/50099) at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Before entering the study, an informed consent was obtained from the subjects.
Results: After confirming the face and content validity quantitatively and qualitatively, the exploratory factor analysis results after varimax rotation showed 55.139% of the total variance explained by the first eight factors with a higher than one specific value. However, in confirmatory factor analysis, the first two factors, 4 and 7, were omitted due to insufficient power to explain the present variables. Finally, the goodness-of-fit indices of the RMFIA, PFI, GFI, IFI, IFI, CFI, AGFI confirmed the fit of the six-factor structure with the data. Reliability of the instrument was also confirmed by internal consistency (α=0.73) and test-retest reliability (r=0.59).
Conclusion: The highly abbreviated 6-item form of Carver’s Brief Cope showed good validity and reliability in the student sample and can be used in health psychology studies.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is one of the most important viral diseases in the current decade which has caused widespread crisis worldwide. The disease was first reported on December 8, 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, in the patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome. On January 8, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in China identified the virus, and it was named 2019-nCoV by the World Health Organization (WHO). The name of the disease was later changed to COVID-19. According to the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses, the virus is called SARS-CoV-2 which belongs to the family of Coronaviridae. The viruses of this family have caused outbreaks in several countries (SARS in 2003 and MERS in 2013) which have led to death and economic loss. 
Methods & Materials: In this review study, COVID-19 was studied from various aspects including evolutionary process and molecular biology of its virus. The selected articles were examined based on the information available in the WHO database. SARS-CoV-2 proteins were identified molecularly and functionally using data analysis and bioinformatics methods, and then related drugs and their effects on virus replication and inhibition were investigated.
Ethical Considerations: All ethical principles were observed in this study.
Results: Studies on the structure of SARS-CoV-2 and drug therapies to inhibit the disease progression showed that the use of different pharmaceutical strategies is effective in treating COVID-19 depending on the progression of the disease. Molecular studies showed that the use of nucleoside analogues and protease inhibitors is effective in the course of the disease and intravenous immunoglobulin, aminoquinoline compounds, TMPRSS2 inhibitors and viral S protein can be effective in the early stages of disease.
Conclusion: In order to control COVID-19, it is very important to study the structure of SARS-CoV-2 virus and its biology in the body. It is essential to identify the drugs that affect the virus based on its biological structure. Due to the structural changes of the virus and successive mutations in the virus genome as well as the emergence of resistant strains or highly contagious strains, further studies on the structure of SARS-CoV-2 and its changes in the body are recommended for designing pharmaceutical and therapeutic strategies. These strategies varies according to the stage of the disease, such that some drugs prevent the virus from entering the target cells in the early stages of the disease and other drugs, in combination with the virus’ surface glycoproteins, prevent the virus antigen from binding to receptors in the host cells. In the late stages of the disease, antiviral drugs including protease inhibitors and nucleoside analogues, interfere with the replication and structure of the virus. Due to intermittent changes in the virus and the development of drug-resistant viruses, it is important to continuously review virological and clinical studies and the performance of existing drugs against SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The COVID-19 pandemic is capable of severely affecting the mental health of health care workers, who are at the forefront of this crisis; while the official staff of health organizations is facing the same danger. Therefore, monitoring awareness and other mental health issues to understand the mediating factors and awareness of appropriate interventions is a necessary priority. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice of medical and administrative staff in facing the COVID-19 virus.
Methods & Materials: This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on 160 medical and administrative staff of Jahrom hospitals in 2020. Demographic information questionnaire and researcher-made questionnaire of knowledge, attitude and practice of medical personnel about coronavirus (Covid 19) were used to collect information. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 21 and descriptive and inferential statistical tests.
Results: 65% of subjects were women and the rest were men. In most of the answers given to each item in both groups, the medical and administrative staff’s answers were close to each other. In the case of the statement "I am more likely to get a corona", 54.4% of the medical staff chose the strongly agreed option, while this percentage is 16.5% for the administrative staff. This indicates that the medical staff is very afraid of getting COVID-19. According to the results, the mean knowledge scores of the medical staff (with an average of 94.35) were significantly higher than the administrative staff (with an average of 87.75) (t=5.96, p<0.001). But the performance of administrative staff (with an average of 93.14) is significantly higher than medical staff (with an average of 87.17) (t=-2.710, p=0.007). No significant difference was observed between the mean scores of the attitude scores of both groups (p=0.438).
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the level of awareness in the face of corona virus in the administrative staff is significantly lower than the medical staff, but the administrative staff has a better performance in facing of the corona virus than the medical staff. It seems that educational measures are necessary to increase the awareness of these people.

Abstract

Background and Aim: In the microbial contamination of food and water, identifying the trace amounts of contaminating bacteria has always been of researchers’ interest and concern. The most frequent approach to resolve this problem is using culture-based methods to increase and enrich bacteria samples; accordingly, it extends the bacterial detection process to several hours or days. One of the smart strategies to solve this problem is the concentration of bacteria using physical methods. The present study aimed to enrich Vibrio cholerae as the most essential water-polluting germs. Accordingly, we used the filtration method and evaluated its function by culture method and two detection approaches of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) and PCR assay.
Methods & Materials: A certain concentration of V. Cholerae was artificially added to a specified volume of sterile water. Then, the bacteria were extracted from the medium and filtered using 0.450 µm separable filters. Finally, the performance of the pre- and post-filtration processes was compared using bacterial cell culture (CFU), ATP, and PCR assay with the specific primers for the ompW gene of V. cholerae.
Ethical Considerations: This article is a meta-analysis with no human or animal sample.
Results: The present research results indicated that the applied method presented high efficiency and recovery performance. In other words, samples provided no positive response before filtration in both methods; however, after filtration in isolated and recovered samples, the presence of bacteria was detected in the ATP and PCR methods. 
Conclusion: In conclusion, the employed strategy can detect V. cholerae in non-culture and in the shortest time in contaminated water samples.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Deferasirox (Exjade) is an iron-chelating drug used in patients with beta-thalassemia major. Oxidative stress is among f the major causes of nephrotoxicity and its progression. Deferasirox, due to oxidative stress and increased cell apoptosis causes the dysfunction of renal tubules and renal toxicity. According to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, the present study explored the effect of vitamin C on deferasirox-induced kidney damage.
Methods & Materials: This study was performed on 30 Wistar rats in 3 groups of control, deferasirox, and deferasirox plus vitamin C. To induce the nephrotoxicity, the intra-peritoneum injection of deferasirox (75 mg/kg/day) was used. After taking plasma from the blood samples of the explored rats, we determined the values of Cr, Na+, K+, Mg+, osmolality, and BUN in the obtained plasma and urine samples. The creatinine clearance, as well as the relative and absolute excretion of sodium and potassium, were also calculated. After separating the two kidneys, they were used for the histologic study with Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining, as well as Malondialdehyde (MDA) and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP)  biochemical studies.
Ethical Considerations This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Arak University of Medical Sciences (Code: IR.ARAKMU.REC.1396.309).
Results: Cotreatment with deferasirox and vitamin C reduced renal tissue MDA and relative and absolute Na and K excretion and urine osmolarity; this method also increased creatinine clearance and renal tissue FRAP.
Conclusion: The co-administration of vitamin C presented a significant protective effect on the renal toxicity induced by deferasirox. The protective property of deferasirox is because of the antioxidant impacts of vitamin C in reducing oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Diabetes is a well-known disease with such complications, as retinopathy, nephropathy, and gastropathy. This study aimed to investigate the effects of thiamine and lead acetate on the colon of induced-alloxan diabetic rats; the effects of which become obvious in the treatment or reduction of tissue complications caused by diabetes.
Methods & Materials: In this study, 63 rats weighing 200 g were divided into 9 groups, as follows: 1) Group of diabetes+pb acetate 200 ppm; 2) Group of thiamin+pb acetate 200 ppm; 3) Group of thiamine+pb acetate 1000 ppm; 4) Group of diabetes+thiamine+Pb acetate 1000 ppm; 5) Diabetes group; 6) Group of diabetes+thiamine; 7) Group of diabetes+thiamine+acetate 200 ppm; 8) Group of diabetes+pb acetate 1000 ppm, and 9) the control group. After 20 days, the study samples were removed from the abdominal cavity and the slides were prepared by routine tissue method. Then, the slides were evaluated for stereological and histomorphometric studies.
Ethical Considerations: This study was approved by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Shahrekord University (Code: GRN1M1903). Moreover, all methods used in the present study, including facilitation, were conducted per the ethical principles of animal restraint.
Results: The mean thickness of mucosa-sub-mucosa suggested significant differences in groups 6 and 7, compared to other treatment groups. There was a significant difference in the thickness of the muscle layer between the control and all treatment groups except for groups 2, 6, and 7. There was no significant difference in the mean thickness of advantia layer in groups 1, 7, and 8, and the control group. The obtained results also indicated a significant difference concerning different layers of colon tissue between group 1 and controls.
Conclusion: Based on the present research results, thiamine presented enhancing effects on muscle layer thickness and adventitia layer thickness. Furthermore, the area of the mucosal layer was not affected by the improving effects of thiamine.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Cancer cannot be explained only by genetic alterations but involves epigenetic processes. Modifying histones by acetylation plays a key role in epigenetic regulation of gene expression and is controlled by the balance between Histone Deacetylases (HDAC) and Histone Acetyltransferases (HAT). The HDACs expression and activity could be involved in several tumorigenesis mechanisms, so their inhibition induces cancer cell cycle arrest and migration.
Methods & Materials: Quisinostat is a novel promising second-generation HDAC inhibitor class of hydroxamic acid with high cellular potency towards classes I and II HDACs. Therefore, its low IC50 (<0.5nM) and bioavailability have been chosen to carry out our studies. Cancer cells were treated with Quiznos at nM200, and cell migration was measured by fluorescent microscopy.
Ethical Considerations: This study was the result of a preliminary study of Shiraz University (Code: 96GCU3M1293).
Results: The data showed that treatment of cancer cells with Quiznos significantly (P<0.05) reduced cell migration. DMSO did not affect reducing cell migration.
Conclusion: In this project try to explore the possible therapeutic application of this HDAC inhibitor against colon cancer. This study showed Quisinostat exerts broad-spectrum antiproliferative activity and migration.

Abstract

Background and Aim The use of allograft alone or in combination with other bone materials has significantly improved bone-augmentation procedures. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of topical gentamicin solution (80 mg) with allograft on guided bone regeneration in defects in rat skull. 
Methods & Materials Twelve Wistar mice were randomly divided into two groups, with 6 in each group. Three defects were created in their skulls, one filled with demineralized freeze-dried bone (DFDBA) allograft alone, the other with allograft with gentamicin 80 mg solution, and the third defect were left empty as a control group. After 4 and 10 weeks, the mice were killed for histological specimens. Histological and histomorphometric evaluations were performed to qualitatively and quantitatively assess bone formation, a new bone type made, new bone vitality, inflammatory response, connective tissue type, and angiogenesis.
Ethical Considerations This study was approved by the ethics committee of Arak University of Medical Sciences (Code: IR.REC.ARAKMU.1397.30).
Results At the end of 4 and 10 weeks after surgery, the average percentage of ossification in the area of ​​defects was higher in the group that received allografts with gentamicin, and during this period, a significant difference was seen between these groups and the control group.
Conclusion According to the present study, the use of gentamicin in combination with DFDBA has a significant effect on bone regeneration in defects in the rat skull.

Abstract

Background and Aim Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory disorder that can affect many body systems, including the hemostatic system. In this study, we aim to investigate the role of hemostatic system and the blood coagulation in COVID-19.
Methods & Materials In this review study, the articles were searched using the keywords COVID-19, Respiratory infection, and Coagulopathy in Google Scholar, PubMed, Google Springer and Science Direct databases.
Ethical Considerations Ethical principles in writing this article were observed in accordance with the guidelines of the National Ethics Committee and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Results Many changes in the coagulation profile of infected patients were reported, including changes in the platelet count, fibrinogen/fibrin degradation product, D-Dimer, fibrinogen, prothrombin time, and activated partial thromboplastin time. With the increase in the number of patients with COVID-19, several studies found out the occurrence of thrombosis and coagulopathy in patients.
Conclusion Due to the increase in the occurrence of coagulation disorders in patients with COVID-19, the administration of anticoagulants is needed for their treatment; it can play an effective role in improving the prognosis of patients.

Abstract

Introduction: The period of the epidemic of covid-19 is a critical situation where the operating room personnel are in the front line and are in more contact with the sick patient and his respiratory tract. The purpose of this study is to determine the preventive behaviors of operating room personnel of Isfahan teaching hospitals during the epidemic of Covid-19.
Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 100 operating room personnel of Isfahan teaching hospitals were investigated in 2019-1400. The required information was collected with the help of demographic information questionnaires and a standard questionnaire of specific questions related to preventive behaviors. Data collection was done from March 1999 to June 1400, then it was analyzed by SPSS statistical software. The Research Ethics Committee of Sari University of Medical Sciences has registered this study with the code IR.MAZUMS.REC.1400.115.
Results: The average rate of compliance with preventive behaviors among operating room personnel was 64.53%, which was above the average level. The highest compliance rate was preventive behaviors after the patient with corona virus left the operating room (84.50%). In this research, 100 health care personnel of operating rooms participated in the study. The gender of the majority of them (74%) was female and 63% of them were under 30 years of age. The participants stated that after the patient with corona virus leaves the operating room, they often or always dispose of the patient's consumables correctly (85%), complete disinfection. It was done with detergents (87%), using UV rays (86%), storing and transporting samples in special double-layered containers and fully complying with hygiene principles (83%).
Conclusions: The results showed that at the time of admission of the patient without Covid 19, contraceptive protocols were observed to a lesser extent than when the patient with Covid was admitted. Preventive behaviors and staff knowledge and awareness about the proper use of personal protective equipment can play an effective role in reducing their incidence.

Abstract

Introduction: Adverse effects of Coronavirus on somatic and mental health is undeniable .nurses staff are exposed to risk of somatic and psychological effects because of continuous working time. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of training coping strategies with stress on distress tolerance and psychological empowerment of corona nurses in Khoy hospitals.
Methods: This research was applied in terms of purpose and quasi-experimental in terms of research method with pre-test – post-test design with control group And from the statistical population that included all nurses in the corona ward of Khoy hospitals in  2021 , 30 people were selected as the available sample. The subjects were randomly assigned into two groups (15 individuals in experimental group and 15 individuals in control group).In order to collect data, the Distress Tolerance Questionnaire and the Psychological Empowerment Questionnaire were used. The experimental group subjects participated in eight 90-minute sessions of training coping strategies with stress. Multivariate analysis of covariance was used to test the hypotheses. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Islamic Azad University of Tabriz (Code: REC.1400.135).
Results: The results showed that training coping strategies has increased distress tolerance and psychological empowerment in the post-test phase (P < 0.01).
Conclusions: According to the findings of the present study, it can be concluded that teaching coping strategies can be used as an effective method to improve stress tolerance and psychological empowerment of coronary nurses.

Abstract

Introduction: One of the biggest environmental challenges of the 21st century is the phenomenon of climate change and global warming, which can cause numerous health problems. One significant health issue associated with climate change is the increase in the prevalence of heat stress, particularly in occupational encounters in hot outdoor environments. So this study aimed to predict and model temperature and humidity indices in the coming decades in a dry climate.
Methods: This study obtained daily atmospheric parameters, including minimum temperature, maximum temperature, and relative humidity of Kerman station, representing a dry climate, for a period of 30 years (1965 to 2005) from the meteorological organization. Modeling of these parameters and calculation of the Temperature and Humidity Index (THI) were performed using the atmospheric general circulation model HadGEM2-ES and the CORDEX dynamic microscaler model. Three different radiative forcing scenarios, including optimistic (RCP 2.6), intermediate (RCP 4.5), and pessimistic (RCP 8.5), were considered for the coming decades (three 30-year periods from 2011 to 2099). The Ethics Committe of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) approved the present study (Code: IR.IUMS.REC.1400.020).
Results: The results of the study showed an increasing trend for minimum and maximum temperature parameters in all three time periods using the three scenarios considered. Moreover, the increase in temperature in the decades of 2099-2071 was more pronounced compared to the previous decades. The results also demonstrated an increasing trend in the THI index based on all three scenarios. The average results obtained using these scenarios showed an increase of 2.11, 2.53, and 3.3 degrees Celsius, respectively, in this index until the end of the last century compared to the base decades.
Conclusions: Overall, the increase in temperature and the investigated THI index in the studied station, based on all three scenarios, will lead to changes in thermal comfort. Higher levels of thermal discomfort will not only occur in hot months and seasons but also in other seasons. Therefore, proper planning should be implemented to address the adverse effects of climate change on people's health.

Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive and debilitating condition. People with COPD often experience exacerbations that may require hospitalization. Pattern analysis of respiratory variability can provide valuable insights into the complexity of the respiratory control system. Therefore, this study investigated respiratory pattern variability during stable and exacerbation phases in patients with COPD.
We analyzed respiratory signal data from 14 patients with COPD during exacerbations and stable phases and compared them with 12 age- and sex-matched control subjects. Respiratory pattern variability analysis of 30-minute inter-breath intervals (IBI) time series was performed using sample entropy and Detrended Fluctuation Analysis.
Sample entropy analysis of the IBI revealed that respiratory variability was more regular during both stable and exacerbation phases in patients with COPD. Also, the short-term (α1) and long-term fractal-like correlation (α2) significantly decreased during both exacerbation and stable phases compared to healthy controls.
The respiratory control system in patients with COPD shows less variability (lower entropy and fractal correlation). This reduction in respiratory signal variability indices in COPD patients is still lower than in healthy people, even when their disease status is stabilized.

Abstract

Introduction: Traffic accidents are a principal challenge in the injury and death of people in Iran and many other countries, which has made the formulation of necessary strategies and planning for inter-sectoral cooperation to prevent and reduce traffic accidents undeniable. Therefore, this research was conducted to investigate the dimensions of inter-sectoral collaboration in preventing traffic accidents in Iran.
Methods: This research is a qualitative study that was conducted in 2023. In this study, sampling was done in a targeted manner, and 15 people from the statistical population were interviewed. The statistical population of the research at this stage included executive managers, traffic police, field activists, and public institutions active in the field of traffic accidents in Central Province and Tehran, who, due to the relevance of their job field, were informed or participated in intersectoral cooperation in line with the management of accidents and traffic accidents were included in the study. Data were collected and analyzed through structured interviews, and their coding was done with the help of MAXQDA 11 software.
Results: The study identified and extracted eight main dimensions of intersectoral cooperation in preventing traffic accidents. These dimensions include laws and law enforcement, research and development, information and data management, internal and external coordination, crisis management, education and awareness, roads, and vehicles.
Conclusions: Providing platforms for promoting the development and expansion of inter-sectoral cooperation in accident prevention and traffic accidents can have various benefits, including long-term social, political, economic and, well-being. Therefore, based on the findings of the research, it is suggested to design an intersectoral cooperation model for the prevention of accidents and traffic accidents so that traffic accidents can be reduced to the minimum possible with proper planning and design so that we can witness the highest level of effectiveness and efficiency in this area.

Abstract

Introduction: Physical activity causes cardiac hypertrophy by a non-pathological change in cardiac structure, called physiological hypertrophy. Several molecular changes are involved in this process. Insulin-like growth hormone-1 (IGF-1) is an important hormone involved in hypertrophy of cardiomyocytes. Also, the role of GATA4 as a possible gene involved in cardiac hypertrophy is controversial. Therefore, the present study was conducted to find the effect of aerobic and interval training on IGF-1, GATA4 gene, and cardiac tissue.
Methods: Eighteen male Wistar rats (243.72 ± 23.41 g) were randomly divided into control, aerobic, and interval training groups (n = 6). The aerobic group trained for 8 weeks/4 days a week/38 minutes/ 65% of maximum oxygen consumption (VO2 max). The intermittent group trained 8 weeks/4 days a week/5 set/4 minutes/85-90% of VO2 max running with 2 minutes rest between the sets. The weight of the heart and left ventricle, IGF-1 concentration, and GATA4 gene expression were measured 48 hours after the training. The evaluation was conducted with a one-way analysis of variance and Tukey's post hoc test at a significance level of 0.05.
Results: The weight of the heart and left ventricle increased significantly in trained groups. IGF-1 and GATA4 gene expression increased in both the training groups than the control group.
Conclusions: Aerobic and Interval training increases IGF-1, GATA4 gene, left ventricle, and heart weight. Considering the shorter time interval training takes, it seems that interval training is more beneficial than aerobic training.

Abstract

Introduction: Glyphosate is the most popular broad-spectrum herbicide globally due to the growing demand for glyphosate-resistant crops. Glyphosate exhibits harmful properties, including cytotoxicity, neurotoxicity, and reproductive toxicity. This study aimed to investigate the detrimental effects of glyphosate on ovarian histopathology in mice and the in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes following superovulation.
Methods: In this study, thirty-two female NMRI mice were randomly divided into the following groups: control, glyphosate, superovulation, and superovulation-glyphosate. Animals received glyphosate (0.5%) continuously through drinking water for three weeks. HMG and HCG were used to induce superovulation. Oocytes were collected from the ampulla, and the quantity and quality of oocytes were analyzed. Then, in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes was performed. At the end of the study, ovarian histopathology was analyzed.
Results: Compared to the control group, the glyphosate-treated group exhibited a significant decrease in secondary and Graafian follicles while demonstrating a concomitant increase in atretic follicles (P < 0.05). Additionally, the superovulation-glyphosate group showed fewer germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD) and MII oocytes than the superovulation group. In the superovulation-glyphosate group, there was a notable reduction in GVBD and MII oocytes following in vitro maturation (IVM).
Conclusions: Glyphosate has the potential to damage ovarian tissue and adversely affect IVM and oogenesis.

Abstract

Introduction: Nowadays, plant-derived compound is widely used in medical treatment as complementary therapies. Rosemary is one of these plants that have anti-angiogenic and anti-tumor effects. However, low solubility and low bioavailability lead to limited use of this compound. To overcome this limitation, the use of liposomes is beneficial. So, this study aimed to prepare liposomes containing rosemary alcoholic extract to obtain the best formulation with best properties to use in the antitumor study.
Methods: Liposomes were prepared by Thin-Film-Hydration method in different ratios of rosemary extract, hydrogenated-soybean-phosphatidylcholine (HSPC), Cholesterol, and mPEG2000 (F1-F6). The characterization of nanoliposomes includes size, PDI (Poly dispersity index), zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency, and release rate was measured.
Results: The results showed that the average particle size and zeta potential were 113.4 nm and -10.8 mV, respectively. Encapsulation efficiency showed a range of 60- 90%. The average release rate of the extract was about 60%. Also, the results showed that the F1 formulation was transparent, had appropriate properties, and did not precipitate. F2 formulation was not transparent. F3-F4 formulations were precipitated, and F5-F6 formulations did not achieve the appropriate size.
Conclusions: This study proved that F1 formulation in a ratio of 55:30:5 HSPC/chol/mPEG2000 is the best formulation for the preparation of nanoliposomes containing rosemary alcoholic extract to achieve the best properties for use in cancer studies.

Abstract

Introduction: Being overweight is associated with increased cortisol secretion, along with heightened anxiety and depression. This study aimed to compare the effect of six weeks of concurrent moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with HIIT training alone on body composition, plasma cortisol levels, and anxiety and depression levels in overweight male students.
Methods: In this semi-experimental research, 27 overweight students were selected and randomly divided into three groups 9: MICT+HIIT concurrent training, HIIT training, and a control group. The MICT )15 minutes of exercise per day at 60-65% of maximum heart rate with an additional 5 minutes every two weeks). The HIIT (3 minutes of running at 70-75% of maximum heart rate, followed by 3 minutes of active rest at 50% of maximum heart rate, with three repetitions in the first two weeks, four repetitions in the second two weeks, and five repetitions in the final two weeks).
Results: Both types of training protocols resulted in reductions in weight, body mass index, cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, cortisol levels, anxiety, depression, and an increase in high-density lipoprotein (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the two types of exercise in terms of effectiveness on these variables; however, only peak oxygen consumption and triglycerides were associated with better changes in the MICT+HIIT group.
Conclusions: For overweight male adolescents aiming for weight loss and improved mental health, HIIT alone is sufficient, and adding MICT does not provide additional clinical benefits.
