Abstract

The human vertebral in anatomical position have two curves thoracic and sacral with posterior curvature and two lumbar and cervical with anterior curvature. The vertebral column no lateral curves. Any curves in the both sides are called scoliosis. Presence of scoliosis is accompany with medical problems such as cardiopulmonary failure, lumbar pain asimetry and deformity. Present project is considered all of the pre-schools boys have done in ages between 11-15 years in every four educational districts of Ahwaz by school screening, 1033 cases was randomly put under. Consideration to determine the rate of scoliosis percentage measuring the length of hight, hands, feet and arm span, the relationship between theses figures and coliosis was determined, the rate of scoliosis in considering population was 1.36% in of all persons the difference who were studied between the length of hands was 5 to 12 mm. The difference between the hight and ram span with those who has scoliosis compare to normal people was considered to be more, the statistic examination was showed that the difference between the length of both hands and feet with the patients meaningful.

Abstract

Introduction: Post operative pain, nausea and vomiting are common complications after hemorrhoidectomy and cause unpleasant expriences for patients. Today, scientists are increasingly moving forward to find new drugs with fewer side effects and costs to control these complications. So this study was planned to evaluate the effect of Dexamethasone on post operative pain, nausea and vomiting. Materials and Methods: This study was a double blind randomized controlled clinical trial that carried out on 112 patients scheduled for hemorrhoidectomy. Patients were diveded into two groups. Case group received 8mg Dexamethasone and control group received 2 ml normal saline intramuscularly 30 minutes before the operation. The method of surgery and general anesthesia were the same in all patients. Pain and nausea score were recorded using visual analog scale (VAS) and vomiting was recorded by asking of them at 0, 2, 4, 6 hours after operation. The patients were followed for 6 hours after the end of the operation and data was analyzed using t and chi square tests. Results: There was a significant difference between the two groups regarding prevention of post operative pain and nausea (p=0.00001). But there was no significant difference between the two groups regarding prevention of post operative vomiting. Conclusion: The result of this study suggested that injection of Dexamethasone before hemorrhoidectomy can decrease incidence of postoperative pain and nausea but dose not have any effects on postoperative vomiting. Therefore Dexamethasone is recommended before hemorrhoidectomy.

Abstract

Background: Marital conflicts have great impact on social, economic and cultural aspects of the couples and their children. New Psychological interventions like “Imago Relationship Therapy” (IRT) have been widely used for resolving these conflicts. This study examined the efficacy of couple dialogue technique on marital relationship and children`s behavior in Iranian society. Methods and Materials: In a Clinical Trial study eighty consecutive couples refered to general pediatric clinics due to their children’s diseases, randomly allocated to intervention group(couple dialogue technique) and control group (consult usual treatment method) in consultation center. They filled "Distance and Isolation Questionnaire" and "Gottmann Love and Respect Scale" at baseline, post treatment and three months after intervention as follow up all of them. General linear Model with Repeated Measurements was used to analyze the data. Results: In this study, scores of mutual love and respect in marital relationship (Gottmann scale) and scores in Flooding, Loneliness and Retreatment subscales of Distance and Isolation Questionnaire had a better condition in IRT group just after the trial (P<0.05) but after three months, the differences between two groups were only marginal significant (P<0.1). In Parallel lives` subscale, scores were decreased in two groups, but right after trial there was not significant scores of the groups did not difference between scores. Scores after three months in IRT group was significantly lower in compare to control group. Scores of CBCL have not statistically significant differences in both groups at any time (P>0.05). Conclusion: This study revealed couple dialogue technique was an effective intervention in solving marital conflicts in Iranian population but had not a significant effect on children’s behavioral profile. This may be due to other factors or insufficient duration of intervention and needs more investigation and needs more investigation.

Abstract

Background: Today, there is growing interest in using traditional medicine for healing cutaneous wounds. Probiotics are defined as different microorganisms that may have positive effects on prevention or treatment of special pathologic conditions. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of Lactobacillus brevis on cutaneous wound healing. Material and Methods: In this experimental study, through phenol-sulfuric acid method, 22 strains of lactobacillus isolated from dairy-traditional products were investigated in terms of exopolysaccharide production. Lactobacillus brevis, which had high exopolysaccharide (EPS) production, was selected. A wound was created on the back of male Wistar rats in control, negative control, and experimental groups. Control and experimental groups underwent regional treatment by eucerin and eucerin contained Lactobacillus brevis, respectively, but the negative-control group did not receive any treatment. On days 1, 7 and 21, the rats were killed and their cutaneous wound samples were studied. Data analysis was done through SPSS version 11.5. Results: The percentage of wound healing (99.53%) and inflammation in the experimental group on day 21 compared to control (90.55%) and negative groups (91.14%) was significantly higher (P<0.001). The number of neutrophils in the experimental group decreased in later phases of wound healing compared to the control and negative control groups. Conclusion: The present study showed that Lactobacillus brevis significantly decreases inflammation and accelerates wound healing in treated rats. The findings of this study can be applied clinically in near future

Abstract

Background: Green tea due to its antioxidant properties can prevent some types of chromosomal damage. In this study, the effects of green tea on repressing chromosomal aberrations induced by cell phone waves in bone marrow polychromatic erythrocytes of male Balb/C mice were investigated. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 40 adult male Balb/C mice were randomly divided into five groups: control (natural conditions), sham exposed (no exposure to cell phone waves in vitro), experimental group 1 (exposure to cell phone waves), and experimental group 2 (intraperitoneal injection of 100 mg/kg dose of green tea extract for 5 days and exposure to cell phone waves), and experimental group 3 (intraperitoneal injection of 200 mg/kg dose of green tea extract for 5 days and exposure to cell phone waves). Micronucleus test was run in all groups. Data were analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey tests using SPSS software (p<0.05). Results: The mean number of micronucleus in polychromatic erythrocytes of the sham group (3.47± 0.253) compared with control group (3.43 ± 0.605) did not show a significant difference (p> 0.05), whereas the mean micronucleus frequency in the experimental group 1 (5.64±0.308) increased significantly. However, the mean micronucleus frequency in experimental group 2 (0.92 ± 0.129) and experimental group 3 (0.55 ± 0.046) compared with the control and sham exposed groups decreased significantly (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Cell phones microwaves (940 MHz) induce chromosomal aberrations in bone marrow polychromatic erythrocytes of male Balb/C mice, but green tea has inhibitory effects and reduces chromosomal damage.

Abstract

Background: In recent decades, with the increasing use of devices generating electromagnetic fields in modern industrial societies, the study of biological effect of these waves on the many organisms development has been considered by government and scientific organizations all over the world. Many people in all hours of their life are exposed to boarding electromagnetic fields of devices in their life and work places, with different intensities and frequencies. This presence of a significant relationship between the increase of some diseases and genetic aberrations and electromagnetic fields is one of the most important issues for researchers that has created many concerns regarding the adverse effects of electromagnetic fields. The findings of some studies indicate that this field does not have enough energy to damage biological molecules, while other researchers believe that electromagnetic fields by affecting cellular stress response and other protective mechanisms cause genetic cell damage. Some studies express that the electromagnetic field are safe alone, but they enhance the genotoxic function of physical and chemical environmental pollutants.

Abstract

Background: The physiological role of apelin, an adipokine secreted by adipose tissue , in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes has been identified . The aim of this study was to determine t he correlation of plasma level s of apelin-13 with insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) and plasma leptin of diabetic male rats after 8-week aerobic exercise .

Materials and Methods: Peresent study was an experimental study with animal model. Twenty eight diabetic male Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups: Non-diabetic (n=9), control diabetic (n=9) and trained diabetic (n=10). Type 2 diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of nicotinamide and streptozotocin. The trained diabetic rat ran 8-week on treadmill progressively. After the training period, plasma levels of glucose, insulin, leptin and apelin-13 were measured and HOMA-IR was calculated. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson’s correlation were used for analyzing data. p<0.05 was considered to be statistically significant.

Results: A significant decrease in plasma levels of glucose, insulin and leptin and HOMA-IR in trained diabetic vs control diabetic rats, a significant increase in plasma levels of apelin in trained diabetic vs non-diabetic and control diabetic rats and a significant negative correlation of plasma levels of apelin with HOMA-IR and plasma leptin in trained diabetic rats was observed.

Conclusion: In present study, 8-week aerobic training by improvement of insulin sensitivity (decrease of HOMA-IR and plasma leptin) increased plasma levels of apelin-13 in diabetic male rats.

Abstract

Background: Amount of natural background   ionizing radiations in environment depends on kind of soil, stones and geographical conditions. Hot springs of Mahallat facilities are annually visited by many tourists. Determination of environmental radioactivity and excess lifetime cancer risk is very important.

Materials and Methods: In this research, twenty four samples of igneous and travertine rocks from a region (300 hectares) and four water samples of Mahallat hot springs were collected. The specific activities of radionuclides were determined for all samples by using gamma ray spectrometry method and employing high purity germanium detector with 30% relative efficiency.

Results: External and internal hazard indices for igneous rocks, water and two travertine samples varied from 0.00 to 0.71 and for two another travertine samples obtained from 8.17 to 22.50.  The average of annual gonadal dose equivalent (AGDE) was determined as 0.36 and 0.20 mSv/y and also the average of excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) was calculated as 0.23 × 10-3 and 0.12×10-3 for igneous and travertine rocks, respectively. Maximum acceptable value and world wide average of ELCR are 10-3 and 0.29×10-3, respectively.

Conclusion: The results of this research show that the hazard indices and ELCR for magma region are less than unity and world wide average respectively. Therefore; there is no consequence for people health. So, the radioactivity only around the orifice of hot springs where radium compositions are deposited, is more than maximum acceptable value.
