Abstract

Tympanic membrane perforation is a world wide common problem particularly in under developed & developing countries. In the current study 352 patients were studied in a period of 6 months period. The age of the patients were between 2.5 to 86 years old. It wasn’t possible to find any significant difference between men and women. The most common form of perforation was central, and the least form was total. The most common cause of perforation was infection with traumatic manipulations and compression injuries coming after. The average amount of hearing loss was found to be 31.9 db which shows presence of some degrees of ossicular and middle ear malfunction.

Abstract

One  of  the  most  common  psychiatric  disorders  is  depression, that  sometimes  may  be  misdiayne  because  of  various  presentations, one  of  these presentations  is  somatic  complaints  and  patients  are  referred  the  different  physicans  and  specialists  and  received  symptomatic  therapies. The  aim  of  this  study  is  the  determination  of  prevalence  of  depression  in  patients  who  referred  to  internal  clinic  of  Hazrat-e-Rasool-e-Akram  Hospital. This  study  was  performed  between  September  and  march  of  1997. All  of  these  patients  had  various  somatic  problems  for  more  than  two  years  without  any  organic  findings  them  the  number  of  patients  were  one  hundered  and  the  assessment  was  performed  by  SCL-90-R  test. Between  these  patients , the  score  of 37  them  were  about  of  mean  score. Depression  was  more  common  low  admission  groups  and  also  in  female.  This  research  shows  that  depression  is  one  of  the  best  diagnoses  in  patients  with  chronic  and  rewirten  somatic  complaints  which  physicans  did  not  find  any  organic  finding  in  them.

Abstract

Introduction: Primary  dysmenorrhea  with   prevalence  of  90%  is  the  one  of  the  most  gynecologic  problems  and  it  is  one  of  the  important  ethiology  of  decrease  of  quality  of  live  in  women.  The  treatment  is  varity  cocp, NSAIDS  (common  treatment)  The  use  of  acupuncture. Tens, Laparascopic  surgery, vitamin  B1  acid -3 omega, transdermal  N.G. (nitroglycerin)  in  the  studies  were  evaluated  but  the  number  of  cases  and  the  period  of  follow  up  is  limited.  In the  study  in  India  with  Gokhale  and  et.al  in  1996, the  curative  Rate  of  treatment  with  Vitamin  B1  was  proved.  In  this  study  we  evaluated  the  treatment   effect  of  Vitamin  B1, and  follow  up  the  patients  3  months  later  and  6  months  after  the  onset  of  treatment.
Material  and  Method: In  this  study  2  years  between  1999-2001  a  Randomized  double  blind  placebo  controlled  study, one  group (118-n)  received  Vitamin  B1  (100 mg)  and  other  group  (124=n)  received  placebo  daily  in  the  onset  of  three  month  treatment  and  end  of  treatment  and  6  months  later  of  onset  of  treatment  the  patient  is  calculated  with  visual  analgesic  scale  and  cox-menstrual  scale.
Results: The  prevalence  of  primary  dysmenorrhea  in  the  population  of  this  study  was  51/9%  mean  age  of  menarche  13/3  year.  The  rate  of  NSAID  using  is  63/1%. 85/5%  of  patients  had  irregular  menses.  The  prevalence  of  premenstrual  sign. And  the  signs  correlated  with  dysmenorrhea  were  evaluated  between  two  groups  of  treatment  evaluated  3  months  after  treatment  period  in  the  placebo  control  care  rate  was  21%  and  in  Vitamin B1  was  86/4%  (chi=103.59  p value=0.000).
Conclusion:  The  results  in  this  study  were  similar  with  the  results  of  Gokhale  in  India.  This  treatment  did  not  have  any  side  effect  and  this  treatment  tolerated  easily.

Abstract

Introduction: Tension  headache  is  the  most  common  type  of  headache. Tension  headache is  mostly  caused  by  stress, anxiety  and  depression.  Treatment  is  by  pharmacological  and  nonpharmacological  methods.  Nowdays  nonpharmacological  methods  are  used  increasingly. This  is  a  response  to  the  over  use  of  drugs, side  effects  and  cost.  The  purpose  of  chronic  tension  headache.
Materials  and  Methods: This  research  is  a  clinical  trial  study. 25  women  suffered  from  chronic  tension  headache  were  treated  by  massage  during  5  weeks. Samples  were  asked  to  record  headache  indexes  in  a  checklist  four  times  a  day  (before  breakfast, before launch , before  dinner  and  before  sleep)  through  these  5  weeks. Data  from  the  first  and  fifth  weeks  were  recorded  as  pre  and  post intervention  data and  data  from  the  second, third  and  fourth  weeks  of  investigations  were  recorded  as  the  data  during  intervention.  During  the  intervention  samples  were  treated  twice  a  week  for  20  minutes  each  time  with  the  friction  massage  on  posterior  parts  of  the  neck  and  shoulders.  Headache    indexes  included: intensity, frequency  and  duration  of  headache, headache  intensity  was  recorded  using  11  points  criteria. Headache  frequency  was  measured  by  calculating  the  days  of  headache  in  a  week  and  the  duration  of  the  headache  was  calculated  by  dividing  sum  of  headache  hours  in  a  week  to  the  frequency  of  attacks. Data  was  analyzed  by  analysis  of  variance  and  Tukey  test.
Results: Results  showed  the  positive  effect  of  massage  in  which  headache  indexes  showed  a  meaningful  difference  in  three  stages  of  pre, during  and  post  intervention (p<0.01).
The  recovery  rates for  each  index  were  52%, 28%  and  57%  respectively.
Conclusion: Massage  therapy  resulted  in  the  reduction  of  intensity, frequency  and  duration  of  tension  headache  and  can  be  useful  in  treatment  of  tension  headache .

Abstract

Introduction: Sodium arsenite is an environmental pollutant which its amounts in industrial cities are more than other places because of its use in chemical industry. Human populations are exposed to this chemical compound through food, soil, air and water which has toxic and histopathological effects on different body organs including kidney. The aim of this investigation is to study the quantitative histopathological effects of sodium arsenite on the kidney structure of rats. Materials and Methods: 12 male Wistar rats with mean body weight of 200±20 g were randomly divided into 2 groups (n=6). One treated with sodium arsenite (8 mg/kg/day in drinking water) and the other one (the control group) received drinking water only. 2 months after treatment the rats were weighed, anesthetized with ether and dissected. The left kidney was taken out, cleaned, weighed and then fixed in 10% formaldehyde solution. After obtaining 1mm thick slices, tissue processing was carried out, then 5µm thick sections were prepared and stained using H&E method. Slides were finally studied stereologically and data was statistically analyzed using paired sampled t-test and the means were considered significantly different at p<0.05. Results: The results of this investigation indicated significant reduction in the total mean volume of kidney (p<0.001), cortex (p<0.001), and medulla (p<0.003) in sodium arsenite treated group compared to the control rats. The mean volume of tubules and interstitial tissue as components of cortex reduced significantly compared to the control group (p<0.003).The mean volume of glomeruli and Bowman's capsule was significantly reduced in treated group (p<0.001), while the other components did not show a significant reduction in volume. A significant reduction was also found in the kidney (p<0.002) and the body weight (p<0. 01) in the treated group compared to the control ones at the end of the experiment. Conclusion: It was concluded that exposure to sodium arsenite leads to histopathological changes in kidney structure, however more studies are needed to determine the effects of these structural changes on the kidney function.

Abstract

Introduction: Opioids abuse is a nationwide problem in our country. Regarding the potential of these drugs in crossing placenta they can cause many defects in fetuses of human and also animals. In the present study, the effects of maternal Morphine consumption on olfactory bulb development in rats have been investigated. Materials and Methods: Female Wistar rats (weight: 250-300g) were crossed with male rats and the zero time of pregnancy was detected. Existence of vaginal plug and also sperm in vaginal smear were indicators of mating and pregnancy. Experimental group received 0.05 mg/ml of Morphine in drinking water daily. On embryonic day 19, pregnant animals were anesthetized by Chloroform and embryos were taken out surgically. Weight of the embryos was determined by a digital balance and their length (Crown-Rump, Frontal-Occipital, Biparietal, Abdominal-Transfer and Anterior-Posterior diameters) were determined by a caliper. Then embryos were fixed in Formalin 10% and tissues were processed and sectioned and stained in Hematoxilin & Eosin and Bielschwosky staining methods. These sections were investigated for olfactory bulb development by MOTIC software and light Microscope. Data was analyzed using t-test. Results: The decrease in embryonic weight and their diameter for experiment group was significant. In microscopic study, the increase in thickness of mitral layer and the decrease in total number of Tufted, Mitral and Granular cells in experimental group were significant. Conclusion: This study showed that oral Morphine consumption leads to olfactory bulb defects.

Abstract

Background: One of the best examples of epimorphic regeneration in the mammals is the formation of new tissues formed from blastema in holes punched in the ears of rabbits. The aim of this research is to investigate speed and percentage of regeneration in different geometrical shaped holes and different regions of rabbit's ear. Methods and Materials: In this experimental research different region of rabbit's ear (proximal, medial and distal) were punched as different geometrical shaped holes (circlc, quadrangle and triangle) with the same area (50 mm2) Ubyg a puncher which designed for this purpose. The regeneration of wounds was evaluated and the percentage of regeneration was calculated. After punching, each 3 days (36-40 days). Results: Results showed speed and percentage of regeneration in circular holes was significantly (P<0.05) more than quadrangular and triangular holes. In addition, regeneration speed of holes located in proximal regions of ear, was more than peripheral holes. Conclusion: Wound regeneration in rabbit's ear is related to the geometrical shape of holes. Speed and the percentage of regeneration in circular shapes is more than angular shapes.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Spinal cord slices culturing from adult mammals could be considered as a suitable in-vitro model for evaluating cellular viability, spinal cord injury and cell death mechanisms. In present study, determining of cell death in motor neurons of cultured spinal cord slices in adult mouse was done. Materials and Methods: In a experimental- laboratory study, thoracic regions of spinal cords from 4 Balb/c mice were cut into 400-µm slices using tissue chopper and incubated in a Co2 incubator at 37˚C for different periods of time. Freshly prepared slices (0h) and cultured slices were fixed and sectioned using cryostat. To study morphological and biochemical features of cell death, fluorescent staining, TUNEL method and agarose gel electrophoresis were used. Results: In freshly prepared slices of motor neurons showed no apoptotic changes. While, 6, 12 and 24h after culturing, this neurons displayed morphological features of apoptosis including cell shrinkage as well as nuclear and chromatin condensation. Also, 6 and 12h after culturing were TUNEL positive. In addition, extracted DNA from cultured slices for 24h were indicated the nucleosomal DNA fragmentation on agarose gel electrophoresis. Conclusion: Results were showed the occurrence of apoptosis in motor neurons of cultured adult mouse spinal cord slices.

Abstract

Background: Molybdenum is an essential trace element for both animals and plants. Molybdenum (Mo), which functions as a cofactor for a limited number of enzymes including xanthine dehyrogenase, aldehyde oxidase, and sulfite oxidase in mammals, is believed to be an essential trace element in animal nutrition. The aim of this study is to evaluate the hepatoprotective potential of sodium molybdate against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced liver damage. Materials and Methods: In an experimental study, adult male rats received daily oral administrations of different doses of sodium molybdate (0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 g/kg bw) along with intrapertioneal CCl4 (50% CCl4 in olive oil, 1 ml/kg bw) twice a week for 28 consecutive days. Results: Histopathological examinations in CCl4-treated rats showed extensive liver injuries characterized by extensive hepatocellular degeneration and necrosis, fat degeneration, and inflammatory cell infiltration while histopathological changes induced by CCl4 were significantly attenuated by sodium molybdate treatment. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that sodium molybdate could protect liver against the CCl4-induced oxidative damage in rats, and this hepatoprotective effect might be contributed to the protection of liver by preventing the toxic chemical reactions which generate oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, and molecular changes which ultimately lead to liver tissue necrosis.

Abstract

Background: Sodium arsenite has adverse effects on the reproductive system and vitamin E is a strong antioxidant and reproductive factor in the reproductive system. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of vitamin E on the structure and the number of ovarian follicles during its development in rats treated with sodium arsenite. Materials and Methods: Pregnant Wister rats (n=4) were divided into 4 equal groups, including control, vitamin E (100mg/kg/day), sodium arsenite (8mg/kg/day), and sodium arsenite+vitamin E. Oral treatment of the pregnant rats started from the 7th day of pregnancy till the end of the weaning and continued till the age of 120 days. After the treatment period, the right ovary was removed and fixed, and then the mean number of ovarian follicles and atretic follicles, mean thickness of zona pellucida, and volume of oocytes and its nuclei in different types of follicle were determined. Data were analysed using one-way ANOVA and the mean difference was considered significant at P<0.05. Results: In the vitamin E+sodium arsenite group, significant increase(P<0.05) in the total number of follicles, mean number of primordial, primary, secondary, antral, and graafian follicles, significant reduction (P<0.05) in atretic follicles, and significant increase(P<0.05) in the thickness of zona pllucida in secondary and antral follicles as well as oocyte volume in parimordial and primary follicles and its nuclei in primary, secondary, antral, and graffian follicles were observed in comparison with the other groups. Vitamin E in the sodium arsenite+vitamin E group increased the number of different types of follicles and the thickness of the zona pllucida (P<0.05), decreased the number of atretic follicles, and increased the volume of oocyte and its nuclei to the level of the control group. Conclusion: Vitamin E can be administered as a supplement to compensate for the adverse effects of sodium arsenite.

Abstract

Background: Arsenic as an environmental contaminant induces male infertility. Curcumin with potent antioxidant property is able to restrict oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of curcumin on testis tissue and sperm count in adult mice treated with sodium arsenite.

Materials and Methods: In an experimental study, animals were divided into four groups: control, sodium arsenite (5 mg/kg), curcumin (100 mg/kg) and curcumin+sodium arsenite. Treatments were performed by intraperitoneal injection for five weeks. After treatment period, body weight was recorded. Left testis was dissected, weighed and used for the histopathological study of seminiferous tubules. Left cauda epididymis was also used to count sperm number.

Results: Mice treated with sodium arsenite showed a significant decrease in the sperm count, the diameter of seminiferous tubules and a significant increase in the lumen diameter of tubules compared to control group. In curcumin+sodium arsenite group, curcumin significantly reversed the adverse effects of sodium arsenite on testis and sperm count. Whereas, the treated mice showed no significant difference in body and testis weight as well as morphology and nuclear diameter of spermatogonia between four groups.

Conclusion: Curcumin is able to compensate the toxic effect of sodium arsenite on sperm count and testis in adult mouse.

Abstract

Background: Quality of life in Tracheostomy patients who are discharged from hospital and take care of your home will be affected by the current situation. Therefore, proper training can improve their quality of life also will increase the satisfaction of the training provided. Based on this, the researcher was to investigate the effects of video tape on quality of life and satisfaction in patient with tracheostomy.

Materials and Methods: This research is a Quasi-experimental study in Imam Khomeini and Amir alam Hospital of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in1392. In this study 80 patient were randomly assigned to intervention and control groups. In the discharge questionnaire on demographic characteristics, quality of life (SF-36) and satisfaction (VAS) were completed. The intervention group received education film for home use addition to the routine teaching of hospital. Two months later the patient's quality of life and patient satisfaction were assessed again with the above instruments. The data were analyzed with using statistical SPSS (V.20).

Results: Statistical analysis showed the difference was significant in both groups after the intervention (p=0.003). The quality of life in the intervention group at two months after the discharge in role limitation due to emotional problems, emotional status, social functioning, energy, public health, and the pain had increased. Average satisfaction with the training of the two groups was statistically significant difference (p<0.001).

Conclusion: The results showed that in addition to routine education to provide educational CDs for home use at discharge can improve the quality of life as well as increased satisfaction with training provided to patient’s tracheostomy.

Abstract

Background: Impulsivity is a core social pathology. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to Effectiveness of group dialectical behavior therapy based on core distress tolerance and emotion regulation components on Expulsive Anger and Impulsive Behaviors.

Materials and Methods: Research method is a semi experimental socio-statistic approach consisting of experimental group (dialectical behavior therapy) and control group. Participants were patients referred to Amir Kabir Hospital in Arak. and who were Expulsive Anger and Impulsive Behaviors. Based on stratified random sampling, 16 patients (women) were placed in each group. Research tools included the structured diagnosis interview according to DSM-IV-TR (2000), Barrat impulsivity scale (1994) Distress Tolerance Scale (2005) Difficulties of Emotion Regulation Scale (2004) and dialectical behavior therapy were done for two months, 8 groups Sessions.

Results: The results of this study showed that there was significant difference between control and experimental groups after implementation of dialectical behavior therapy relying on component tolerance and regulation of emotional distress variables impulsive behavior and explosion furies (p<0.01).

Conclusion: Distress tolerance and emotion regulation components effective on Expulsive Anger and Impulsive Behaviors.

Abstract

  Background: Alpha-tocopherol, as a strong antioxidant, plays an important role in testraining free radicals. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Alpha-tocopherol on cell proliferation and restraining apoptosis in rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.

  Materials and Methods: In this research study, the rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were extracted under sterile conditions using flashing-out method. At the end of the third passage, cells were divided into groups of control and Alpha-tocopherol with doses of 15 and 25 µM and were treated in the osteogenic media cell medium containing 10% fetal bovine serum, 10 mM β-glycerol phosphate, 10 nM dexamethasone and 50 µg/ml ascorbic 3-phosphate] for a period of 21 days. Then, cell proliferation, DNA damage, expression of Bcl-2 and Bax genes and the morphologic changes of the cells were investigated during the procedure of osteogenesis. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and means difference was considered significant at p<0.05.

  Results: Cell proliferation, the size of nuclei diameter and expression of anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 gene showed a significant increase in mesenchymel stem cells treated with Alpha-tocopherol (p<0.05) in a dose dependent manner compared to the control cells. Also, cytoplasm extension was seen in the cells treated with Alpha-tocopherol, compared to the control group. Since Alpha-tocopherol causes a significant decrease in DNA damage and the expression of apoptotic Bax gene, compared to the control group, therefore it can suppress apoptosis in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, in a dose dependent manner .

Abstract

Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy in reducinng expulsive anger.

Materials and Methods: This is a pre-test and post-test semi-experimental study with control group. The study population included 32 patients with expulsive anger that reffered to Amir kabir remedial education center based on psychiatrist diagnosis and were randomely divided into case (dialectical behavior therapy) and control group. The case group was educated the dialectical behavior therapy skills for 16 sessions from 2 until 2.5 hours at teamly. To collect data, the patients filled Eysenk expulsive questionnaire before and after intervention. Considering no necessary assumptions were fulfilled to conduct the multivariate analysis of covariance and variance, so, the univariate analysis of variance was used.

Results: The results of variance analysis proved that dialectical behavior therapy significantly reduced expulsive angers.

Conclusion: With due attention to the results, it can be said that dialectical behavior therapy leads to reducing expulsive angers in treated patients, thus, this method can be included in interventional programs for target groups in psychotherapy centers. Aslo, it helps to improve the life of patients by reducing expulsive angers.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the acute effect of supplementation Jadvar on aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) enzymes after exhaustive incremental exercise in men's handball.

Materials and Methods: In this semi-experimental double blinded study 12 handball players with at least 2 years record in league (with average age=21.42, height=186cm, weight=83.25, and body mass index=24.09kg/m2) divided into 2 groups (n=6) accidentally. Both groups performed maximum Bruce protocol until exhausting level. Before (fasting) and after performing protocol ,blood samples were taken from middle forearm vein and transferred to lab then supplementation group consumed three 500 mg jadvar capsules and control group consumed three 500 mg maltodextrin  for 7 days daily. 24 hours after eating last capsule ,they performed maximum Bruce protocol up to exhausting level and the samples were collected like primary protocol blood samples before (fasting)and after performing protocol and were transferred to the laboratory.

Results: The results of dependent and independent t-test showed that consuming jadvar supplements for 7days did not have significant effect on aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT)(p≥0.05).But alanine aminotransferase in supplementation group (16.83 mg.dl-1) decreased in comparison to placebo group (20.5 mg.dl-1). Also, aspartate aminotransferase was increased from 28 mg.dl-1 to 35.17 mg.dl-1 , but neither decrease nor increase was not meaningful (p≥0.05).

Conclusion: It seems that acute consuming of jadvar supplement and one session incremental exercise does not have meaningful effect on AST and ALT in man handball players.

Abstract

Abstract
Background: The rhizome of Iris songarica Scherenk has been prescribed as anodyne in Persian traditional medicine system. However, its effects have never been investigated experimentally. Thus, the present study was designed to evaluate the antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of alcoholic extract of Iris songarica Scherenk rhizome in mice.
Material and Methods: In this experimental study, adult male balb/c mice were used. 40 animals were allocated into five equal groups (control, morphine 5mg/kg, the extracts at doses of 100, 200 and 300 mg.kg) and tested for antinociceptive evaluation via using hot-plate in 30,60 and 120 minutes after the investigations. Also, the other 36 mice were divided into six equal groups (no-inflammation control, inflammation model, dexamethasone 4 mg/kg and the extracts at doses of 100, 200 and 300 mg.kg) and evaluated for anti-inflammatory activity in xylene induced inflammation model. All the investigations were done via intraperitoneal injection. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis tests in SPSS.
Results: Compared to the control group, the extract at the all doses could increase latency time in hot plate test at 30, 60 and 120 minutes after investigation (p<0.05).This potential was comparable to morphine in the high doses or long time. In addition, the extracts at the all doses exhibited high anti-inflammatory activity which was comparable to dexamethasone (p<0.001).
Conclusion: The results of present study clearly showed that Iris songarica Scherenk rhizome has antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities in mice.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Recently, there is increasing concern about the declining of male reproductive health. Oxidative stress has been proposed as a possible mechanism contributed in reproductive system failure. Dorema aucheri that is being used in Persian folk medicine has been supposed to have male fertility-enhancing properties. Present study was done to evaluate the impacts of Dorema aucheri on oxidative status and reproductive parameters in male rats.
Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, healthy adult male Wistar rats were treated with 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg of ethanolic D. aucheri leaves extract via gavage for 70 days. Blood samples were collected for analysis of testosterone, LH and FSH serum levels. Reproductive organs weight, density, motility and morphology of spermatozoa, seminiferous tubules diameter, germinal epithelium height and also testicular levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) were evaluated.
Findings: Significant (p<0.05) increases were seen in the testis and epididymis weights of male rats treated with 200 and 400 mg/kg D. aucheri extract. In rats treated with D. aucheri extract sperm density and percent of morphologically normal sperm were significantly (p<0.05) higher. No significant differences were seen in serum testosterone, FSH and LH levels between D. aucheri extract-treated groups and controls. D. aucheri significantly (p<0.05) reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and also increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity in testicular tissue of rats.
Conclusion: Present study indicates that D. aucheri leaves extract has beneficial effects on reproductive parameters in male rats which might be a consequence of its antioxidant properties.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Radiation therapy is the destruction of cancer cells that in all patients with breast cancer reduces tumor recurrence, relieves pain in local tumors and metastases. There are different treatment methods around the world such as electron, photon alone or a combination of both types of fields.
Materials and Methods: In this study, photon therapy (PT) and mixed photon-electron therapy (MPET) were used to treat malignancies of the supraclavicular lymph nodes. 30 patients with right-sided breast cancer with local lymph node metastasis were recruited. The ISOgray software was utilized to collect data about treatment planning methods with PT and MPET.
Findings: The maximum and mean delivered doses of radiation to the supraclavicular region were 52.08±1.64, 42.59±0.51 Gy and 54.24±1.64, 43.67±0.43 Gy in the PT and MPET methods, respectively. The mean irradiated volumes of supraclavicular fossa that received 90% of the radiation dose were 59.74±1.94% and 70.26±0.94% in the PT and MPET methods, respectively (p=0.004). The maximum doses delivered to the spine were 14.66±1.9 Gy and 10.22±0.92 Gy and the thyroid were 42.62±3.1 Gy and 37.67±5.02 Gy in the PT and MPET methods, respectively.
Conclusion: The maximum doses delivered to the spine and thyroid significantly diminished by the novel method. Additionally, supraclavicular region received higher maximum and mean doses in the new treatment modality compared to the conventional methods. The new method improved dose coverage for the tumor.
