Abstract

In this paper, the situation of intestinal parasites infection among primary school students was investigated. This study was carried out with sample size of 394 student from 30 selected primary school in Arak city. Selection of chasses and students made by stratified method and stool examination done with direct and indirect method. The research methodology was based on analysis of data obtained from, 3 times stool examination of all students in the sample group. The results of the research from that : 63.5% of students were infected by parasites (pathogene and nonpathogene), In among pathogenic parasites , giardia with 27.7% and h.nana with 6.35 had the highest prevalence. Prevalence of the other intestinal parasites were: Ascaris  1.5%, Oxyuris 1.5% ( nonepecific method ), Entamoeba histolytica 2.5%, Entamoeba coli 29.4%, Entamoeba Hartman 2.2%, Endolimax 12.4%, Iodamoeba 3.5%, Blastocystis 2.2% , Chlomastix 2%. The results also showed that there is no significant relation between infection date and demographic factors such as: age, sex, parents job and , geographic area.

Abstract

Introduction: Glucose Six Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) catalyses the first step in pantose phosphate pathway to produce NADPH. NADPH plays an important role in oxidation and reduction of hemoglobine and reduces H202 level. However, in absence of G6PD, NADPH also will be decreased, as a result of severe defect in function of red blood cells occurred. So we decided to survey is prevalence in our region by studying on the umbilical cord blood.
Material and Methods: Our study were descriptive-analytic and samples were gathered by Simple Sampling Method. EDTA was used as an anticoagulant. Enzyme activity was measured with the method of Fluorescent spot Test (FST). Chi-Square and logestic regression were used to analyses the data and P<0.05 was considered as significant.
Result: From a total of 2160 neonates, 1103 case (51.1%) were male and 1057 case (48.9%) were female. 3.5% of the males and 0.8% of females and over all 2.2% of the neonates were G6PD deficient. Due to chi-square analyses and logestic regression, positive RH increases the risk by 1.6 as compare to negative RH. However we could not find any significant relationship between blood groups and prevalence of G6PD.
Conclusion: As our results showed, the G6PD deficiency is more common in male than female. Relation between positive RH and G6PD deficiency were significantly increased. Prevalence of G6PD in Arak City showed 2.2% which is lower than that of north our country (8.7%) as well as lower than other part of the world (10-14.9%). We suggest using the screening umbilical cord blood test on the neonates to diagnose the G6PD deficiency and to promote the primary health care quality and public as well as reduction the social and economical problem of the society.

Abstract

Introduction: Free radical-mediated peroxidation of biological molecules, such as lipids, is implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis and it's animal model experimental allergic encephalomyelitis(EAE). Low concentration of antioxidant vitamin E has been observed in serum of multiple sclerosis. However, it is not known whether vitamin E has protective effect in EAE. Vitamin E may inhibit EAE by effect on the level of uric acid and Nitric Oxide (NO) production. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study some male C57BL/6 mice were placed in two therapeutic groups (n=8 per group) with age and weight-matched as follow: 1)Vitamin E-treated EAE mice (10mg/kg/every two days of vitamin E given i.p from day-3 until day+19 after disease induction, 2) Non-treated EAE mice (EAE control) received vehicle alone with same schedule. In addition, 5 age and weight-matched male C57BL/6 mice served as normal (non-EAE) controls. Clinical score of disease, uric acid and NO levels of the groups were analysed. Results: Results showed that vitamin E-treated mice had significantly less clinical score of EAE (4±0.8) than non-treated EAE induced mice (5.3±0.44), (p<0.01). Also, there was difference at the onset day of the disease between vitamin E-treated and non-treated EAE-induced mice (day 13±1 and day 11±1, respectively), although was not significant. Concentration of uric acid in vitamin E treated mice were significantly lower than EAE control (p<0.001). There was no difference at the level of NO between the groups. Conclusion: Vitamin E had no effect on NO level, but decreased serum uric acid level. It suggests that vitamin E can reduce or delay the onset of EAE by increasing uric acid consumption.

Abstract

Background: Clinical research suggest a relationship between epilepsy and hypogonadism. The aim of this study is to identify the impact of epilepsy induced by kindling with pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) on hormones and some reproductive parameters in male rats. Materials and Methods: Adult male rats (NMRI strain) were divided into control and kindling groups. Kindling was induced by 40 mg/kg PTZ with a 48 hour interval through intraperitoneal injection. Each animal received 13 doses. At the end of the thirteenth dose, animals were weighed and uthenaized with ether and blood samples, collected from their hearts, were used for testosterone, prolactin and FSH, LH assay. In order to examine motility and morphology of sperms, tissue samples from epidydimis were isolated and minced in DMEM/F12 culture medium and were incubated for 15 minutes. Then sperm morphology and motility were studied. Testis were also isolated and weighed. Results: Kindling with PTZ decreased serum levels of testosterone and LH, but it increased rolactin. However, there was no difference in serum level of FSH between the two groups. Sperm motility in kindling group decreased significantly. There were no significant differences in testis weight, but the amount of animal weight losses in the kindling group was more than that of the control group. Conclusion: By changing the serum level of sexual hormones and decreasing sperm motility, PTZ kindling induced epilepsy exerts diminishing negative effects on reproduction.

Abstract

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS) of unknown etiology. Vitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3) has strong immune modulating potential. Nitric Oxide (NO) has been identified as one of the most destructive products of the immune system and is an important factor in demyelination. The effect of short-term vitamin D3 supplementation on NO level was assessed in MS patients. Materials and Methods: The study included 60 MS patients (male and female). Patients were randomized independently, in a double blind design, into one of two treatment groups. Controls (n=30) received current treatment. Vitamin D treated (n=30) individuals received current treatment plus 300000 IU vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 injection was repeated monthly for 6 months. Nitric oxide (NO) production was estimated by Griess reaction. Results: NO levels decreased following vitamin D3 treatment but the differences did not reach significance (12.411.1 μmol/L to 9.88.9 μmol/L). Control group was also associated with an increase in NO levels but not statistically significant (18.417.07 μmol/L to 22.0716.8 μmol/L). Conclusion: Vitamin D3 has not significant effect on the level of nitric oxide. However, further studies should be done to evaluate the potential of vitamin D as an immune modulator in management of MS.

Abstract

Background: Falcaria vulgaris has different properties and it used as dietary and medicinal herb in the west of Iran. Previously, we showed that this plant has protective and repairing effect on gastric ulcer were demonstrated .The aim of present work was to investigate the effects of F. vulgaris extract on female rat's fertility. Material and methods: In this Exprimental study Virgin female NMRI rats (160-190 gr) were used in three experiments. In each experiment, animal divided into two subgroups (n=8): control which received Distilled Water (DW) (2cc/kg) and case which received herb extract (150mg/kg) interaperitonealy. In first experiment, animals received single dose of extract or DW. In second experiment، female rat received extract or DW in perimplantation period (day 1 to 5 of pregnancy) and in third experiment ( day 5 to 7 of pergnancy). In both experiments implantation sites and neonates were counted in three experiments. Data were analyzed by T-Test test and p<0.05 were considered significant. Results: All three experiments showed significant differences between control and case groups in implantation sites and neonates number. This differences were more prominence in first and third experiment.

Abstract

Background: Spinal anesthesia is an efficient method of providing intra operative analgesia and a safe alternative to general analgesia in many cesarean patients. Despite its advantages, SA is not free from adverse effects, which include unwanted cardiovascular events, in most cases: hypotension and bradycardia. Ondansetron is a 5HT3 receptor antagonist, with known efficacy on preventing nausea and vomiting. Maybe ondansetron given intravenously attenuates the fall of blood pressure and heart rate, by 5HT3 blocking in vagal nerve endings and effect on BJR.(Bezold jarish Reflex).

Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial 102 healthy pregnant women that were candidate for elective cesarean in hamedan fatemieh hospital during 3 months in 1390, studied. They were randomized into 2 groups: the ondansetron group, n= (51) received (4miligram) ondansetron intravenously before performing spinal anesthesia, and placebo group n= (51): received 2cc sterile water before spinal anesthesia. Spinal anesthesia was performed with hyperbaric bupivacaine (0.5%) 10 mg and sufentanil (5 µg) BP and HR were measured and recorded before and after anesthesia immediately. If hypotension happened, ephedrine 5- 10mg injected. Itching and nausea recorded every 10 min during operation by observation and question.

Results: There were no significant differences in SBP, DBP, MAP, HR and itching in both groups. Nausea and vomiting ,and mean consumed ephedrine was siginificantly different in both groups.(p=0.001, p=0.009).

Conclusion: Ondansetron given intravenously with antiemetic dose (4miligram), decreases mean consumed ephedrine and nausea and vomiting after spinal anesthesia, but doesn't have an influence on BP, HP and pruritus

Abstract

Background: This study aimed to examine the antibacterial effect of Polyamidoamine-G4 dendrimer on Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacae, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus.

Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, the antibacterial effects of Polyamidoamine-G4 dendrimer were studied by disc diffusion and micro-dilution method. Different concentrations of Polyamidoamine-G4 inoculated onto blank disks and were placed in Mueller-Hinton agar media. Zone of inhibition was investigated by bacterial inoculation according to the McFarland standard 0.5. Minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration of Polyamidoamine-G4 dendrimer were determined by micro-dilution method in nutrient broth culture.

Results: Zone of inhibition in concentration 500 &mug/ml of Polyamidoamine-G4 dendrimers for Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacae, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus were 14, 0, 35 and 29mm, respectively. Concerning the Zone of inhibition in gram negative bacteria with gram positive ones was p<0.05 and had significant difference. The minimum inhibitory concentration of Polyamidoamine-G4 dendrimer for Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus were 1250, 2.5, and 1 &mug/ml, respectively. The minimum bactericidal concentration of Polyamidoamine-G4 dendrimer belonged to Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus were 2500, 5 and 5 &mug/ml, respectively. Polyamidoamine-G4 dendrimer had not bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects on Enterobacter cloacae.

Conclusion: According to the results, Polyamidoamine-G4 dendrimer can eliminate Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis effectively. It is suggested in the rest of this study that the probable toxicity of nanostructured compounds examined in drinking water and, economic studies is done for synthesis and their applications in case of prevention of using.

Abstract

Abstract
Background: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) comprise a family of proteolytic enzymes.MMPs are capable of disrupting the blood-brain barrier (BBB), mediating the destruction of extracellular matrix and myelin components. Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) are proteins which block the activitiy of MMPs. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) facilitates T-cell migration into the CNS while the tissue inhibitor matrix metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) inhibits MMP-9 actions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of TIMP-1 gene (in RNA level) in blood cells of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients treated with IFNb.
Materials and Methods: In this study, the expression level of TIMP-1 gene was investigated in blood cells of MS patients compared to healthy subjects by Real-Time PCR.
Results: The RRMS patients manifested a lower expression level of TIMP-1 RNA than their normal counterparts, although the result was not significant (p=0.1).
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that there was no linear correlation between TIMP-1 expression level and risk of Expanded Disability Status Scale of Kurtzke (EDSS); nor was there any significant correlation between expression status of TIMP-1 and duration of the disease. Further studies are recommended to compare TIMP-1 RNA in patients before and after taking IFN-beta.

Abstract

Abstract
Background: Candida albicans as an opportunistic fungal pathogen in human causes candidiasis. The widespread use of azoles has led to the increase of azole resistance in Candida albicans isolates. Mutation in the ERG11 gene is one of several azole resistance reasons in Candida albicans. The aim of this study was to find ERG11 gene mutations in fluconazole resistant isolates in Rasht.
Materials and methods: Candida albicans isolates were identified by standard identification methods such as germ tubes. The fluconazole resistance and susceptibility of the isolates was evaluated by Disc diffusion and MIC methods. For mutation determining, ERG11 gene was amplified by PCR and then sequenced in clinical isolates.
Results: From 23 isolates of Candida albicans, 20 isolates were fluconazole resistant. The MIC of fluconazole in these isolates was determined between 128 to 2048µg/ml. Also, sequencing analysis showed that 10 fluconazole resistant isolates had two missense mutations (D116E and E266D) in ERG11 gene.
Conclusion: In this study, resistance to high concentration of fluconazole shows that different mechanisms simultaneously implicated in developing azoles resistance in the isolates. Association of ERG11 gene mutation and deregulation of other genes can be led to resistance to high fluconazole concentration in this study.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Prolonged ischemia in organs with high metabolic rates such as brain and heart is associated with deleterious effects. Therefore, nutritive distribution through angiogenesis after ischemia is necessary for repairing damaged region of tissue. In this study, the effects of iron oxide nanoparticles and magnetic field on angiogenesis after ischemia reperfusion (IR) in rat model have been investigated.
Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, fifty male rats aged between 6 -7 weeks at the 220-250gr weight were purchased from Tehran University. Animals were categorized in 5 groups including sham (ischemia reperfusion model), control, iron oxide nanoparticles-treated, magnetic field-exposed, and combination therapy with iron oxide nanoparticles and magnetic field-exposed groups. Angiogenesis was evaluated in hippocampus of 5 groups after 4 days by H&E staining method. The expression of Vegfa gene was studied in 5 groups by Q-RT- PCR.
Findings: Iron oxide nanoparticles as well as the magnetic field induced angiogenesis during 4 days in animals after IR (p<0.05), but their combination therapy did not show any significant difference compared to sham group during 4 days. Upregulation of Vegfa gene was observed in iron oxide nanoparticles treated group and the magnetic field exposed group significantly (p<0.05) relative to ischemia reperfusion (IR) model. But overexpression of Vegfa gene in combination therapy group was not significant relative to ischemia reperfusion (IR) group.
Conclusion: It seems that iron oxide nanoparticles and magnetic field can separately be two effective methods for angiogenesis after ischemia reperfusion (IR).

Abstract

Introduction: The academic failure of students is one of the major problems of higher education centers in the country, which not only wastes time and running costs of these centers, but also causes mental-psychological, family and social problems for students. The purpose of this study was to investigate and explain the various causes of academic failure in dental students of Arak city.
Methods: The present study was of a descriptive-analytical type, which was conducted with the participation of 120 dental students of Arak Medical Sciences. Sampling was by census method and all students were included in the study. The data collection tool of this study was a questionnaire containing demographic characteristics, questions related to various factors of academic failure in students. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods (frequency, mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation coefficient and linear regression) in SPSS software version 22.
Results: The sample consisted of 30 individuals (10 males and 20 females) with generalized anxiety disorder, selected purposefully and randomly assigned to a treatment group based on virtual reality and mindfulness (15 individuals) and a control group (15 individuals). Pre-test, post-test, and follow-up cortisol levels were measured, and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) was used as the entry criterion. Subsequently, the experimental group received an eight-session, 17-minute weekly treatment based on virtual reality and mindfulness. Participants in this group, while immersed in a virtual environment, watched 360-degree virtual reality videos, "Walking by the Beach" and "Pebbles in the Lake," accompanied by mindfulness audio contemplation, "Being Present and Breathing," and "Wise Mind," using a VR headset and VR-ARBOX. The control group received no treatment.
Conclusions: According to the findings of this research, it was found that factors such as student's individual characteristics, inappropriate educational environment, inappropriate family environment and dealing with non-curricular issues had a significant effect on the event of students' academic decline, so paying attention to these factors in the design and implementation University educational programs can play an effective role in avoiding academic failure.

Abstract

Introduction: Sexual self-efficacy is a fundamental concept in behavior, health, and sexual performance that changes over time due to events such as pregnancy and childbirth. The present study was conducted to investigate factors affecting sexual self-efficacy in pregnant women in Arak City.
Methods: The current research is a cross-sectional, descriptive, and analytical study conducted with 234 pregnant women aged 18 to 40 who had minimal reading and writing literacy and lived with their husbands. Ten comprehensive urban health centers were selected using cluster sampling. Data were collected through a demographic information checklist and a sexual self-efficacy questionnaire. Data analysis was done using Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis and (LSD) tests.
Results: The mean score of sexual self-efficacy of pregnant women was 28.51 ± 6.45 and was at a high level. Kruskal-Wallis test showed that the sexual self-efficacy of pregnant women is unrelated to their education (P = 0.2). There is a significant relationship between education and the education of their spouses (P = 0.04). (LSD) test showed a significant difference between different levels of education of husbands and the sexual self-efficacy of pregnant women. Also, no significant relationship was observed between the mean score of sexual self-efficacy and other variables.
Conclusions: The sexual self-efficacy of pregnant women is related to the education of their husbands, so it is suggested to provide a suitable platform for increasing the knowledge and awareness of men.
