Abstract

Introduction: Tribulus was traditionally used as a diuretic, mild laxative, urolithiasis, dysurca for treatment of urinary tract problems including stones, cystitis and infections, particularly Gonohrea. Antimicrobial cffects of methanol extract of Tribulus fruit on few gram positive and negative bacteria, the causative agents of some bacterial infections was evaluated and then compared with some in use antibiotics for these infections.
Materials and Methods: In this research as an experimental study. 40 gr powder of Tribulus fruit was dissolved in 100 ml pure methanol as a solvent with cold maseration method, the suspension was filtered after 5 day. The filtered suspension were concentrated with rotary evaporator apparatus in vaccum and was then dilluted with methanol to yield different concentrations. The antimicrobial activity of the extract and antibiotical were examined with disc diffusion and tube dilution standard methods to measure the diameter of inhibition zones, minimal inhibitory concentration and minimal bacterial concentration.
Results: The results were shown that the antimicrobial effect of the methanol extract of Tribulus fruit on ATCC strains of Streptococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas acroginosa had bactriostatic effect with the concentration of 400, 200, 100, 100 ug/ml in order. The comparison of urinary tract infections, including Oxacilin, Ciprofloxacin, Penicilin G, Gentamycin, Cotrimoxazole, Nalidixic acid and Nitroforantoin were shown that Tribulus fruit extract in concentration used in this research had a similar or even better effect than some antibiotics on some of the bacteria used in this evaluation.
Conclusion: The Tribulus fruit extract has an efficient bactriostatic and bactricidal activity of few gram positive and negative bacteria, the causative agents of some bacterial infections and these cffects are comparable to those antibiotics in usc for treatment of these infections. Tribulus fruit extract could be suggested for treatment of these infections after the pharmacological and clinical complementary studies.

Abstract

Introduction: Oxidative  stress is  one  of  the  factors  producing  poisoning  during  chronic  exposure  to  organophpsphporous  poisons.  In  this  research  we  studied  oxidative  stress  status  and  acetycholinesterase  in  pesticide  manufacturing  workers.
Materials  and  Methods: This  is  a  cross-sectional  analytical  study  in  which  45  organophopsphorous (OP)  formulating  pesticide  workers  with  a  minimum  work  history  of  1  year  in  the  age  range  of  23-35  were  studied. Controls  were  age–matched  workers  of  a  food-making  factory.  They  were  evaluated  for  oxidative  stress  markers, including  Tthiobarbituric  acid-reactive  substances (TBARS)  indicator  of  lipid  peroxidation (LPO), ferric  reducing  ability  of  plasma (FRAP)  indicator  of  total  antioxidant  capacity, total  Thiol (SH)  groups  and Gammaglutamyl  transpeptidase (GGT)  levels  in  blood  and  ACHE  activity  in  erythrocytes.
Results: The  results  showed  marked  inhibition  of ACHE, increased  TBARS, decreased  FRAP  and  decreased  Thiol  group  level  in  workers.  The  reduction  in  activity  of  ACHE  correlated  well  with  increased  TBARS  and  decreased  FRAP  in  OP  formualtors.
Conclusion: It  is  concluded  that  Op-formulating  workers  are  exposed  to  more  oxidative  stress. The  measurement  of  erythrocyte  ACHE  activity  in  pesticide  workers  who  formulate  Ops  can  be  a  good  monitoring  factor  and  is  recommended  to  be  performed  in  a  regular  manner.

Abstract

Introduction: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common benign tumor in men. Due to the side effects of chemical drugs, phytotherapy has become a treatment method in BPH since 1990s. Prostatan is a plant extract widely available in Iran. In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic effects of Prostatan drop in combination with Prazosin in alleviating BPH symptoms. Materials and Methods: In a single blind randomized clinical trial , 66 men over 50 years with BPH symptoms who were visited in Vali-e-Asr hospital of Arak were randomly divided in two groups and treated with either Prostatan (40 drop,TDS) plus Prazosin (1mg, BD)or Prazosin (1mg, BD)alone . AUA symptom score, PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels, Prostate volume, post voidal residue (PVR) by sonograms and uroflowmetry results were determined before and 12 weeks after treatment. Data was analyzed by T and Man- Whithey u tests. Results: Before treatment there were no significant differences in age, PSA, PVR, AUA symptom score, Prostate volume and uroflowmetry between the two groups. After treatment the mean of PSA levels, Prostate volume and PVR did not differ between the two groups. In the Prostatan plus Prazosin group, the mean of AUA symptom score was 3.3 less (p<0.0001) and the mean of maximal urine flow rate was 2.7 ml/s more than the Prazosin group (p<0.0001). Conclusion: Regarding results, it seems that adding Prostatan to Prazosin against Prazosin alone enhances its effects on controlling BPH symptoms and increases urine flow rates.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Methanol causes so many severe toxicities. Chronic low dose methanol ingestion can cause severe toxicity. There are many unpublished reports from doctors about side effects of toxicity by methanol like blinding in chronic user of herbal essences. Regarding to kinds of herbal essences producing and side effects of its chronic using, probability, there is methanol in the process of making. Therefore we decided to evaluate rate of methanol in various products. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional analytic study, 3 samples of high consumption homemade herbal essences in Arak (Pussy, Mint, Fenugreek, Hedysarum, Dill and Chicory) and 3 samples of the same herbal essences from industrial products with trademarks were gathered. All of them have been analyzed with spectrophotometer in five times. Results: The maximum methanol concentration was related to a sample of industrial Mint (415.04 ppm) and the minimum methanol concentration was related to a sample of handmade Fenugreek (60.26 ppm). There was no significant difference between methanol concentration in handmade and industrial herbal essences. Conclusion: There is probability of methanol toxicity after chronic usage of some herbal essences. Due to lack of maximum permissible concentration for non methanol essences, it is recommended that a cut of point of methanol concentration was determined and inform people about it.

Abstract

Abstract There are secrets to the orders and rules of God that have manifested in religion or religious practices. Cleanliness and hygiene, especially through ablution, are essential issues in worshiping God. Physical cleanliness is viewed as the way for reaching inner decency. There are two types of benefits to ablution: moral/spiritual and health. The immaculate man is favored by God and as God states in Quran: “immaculate and clean man can benefit from the content of Quran”. Washing hands and face, at least three times daily, has significant effects on physical hygiene and washing the head and feet in water stimulates the nervous system in these organs. Today, it is a proven fact in neurophysiology that neural stimulation raises the level of awareness. One of the health benefits laid in ablution is that the body parts washed in ablution make up 20% of the body surface area but a major portion of brain cortex is stimulated by this simple act. Ablution, in addition to inner purity and spiritual refinement, increases physical cleanliness, triggers the central nervous system stimulation, and raises the awareness level.

Abstract

Background: Based on the association between beta (13-30 Hz) and attention and alertness and theta (4-8 Hz) and a hypnagogic state and less attention, the possibility of training attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) individuals in order to enhance their symptoms was investigated. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of neurofeedback training on students with ADHD symptoms.

Materials and Methods: This interventional study was conducted with an experimental group and a control group. A total of 34 female students with high scores on Conners adult questionnaire and theta/beta ratio in Mohaghege Ardebili University, Iran, were randomly selected and then assigned to neurofeedback training and control groups. Neurofeddback training (NF) was used with an experimental group in twenty sessions and the control group received no training. Data were gathered using the neurofeedback system (NFT), the continuous performance test (CPT), the short diagnostic hyperactivity disorder- Conners adult questionnaire. Multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) was used for analyzing the data.

Results: The results indicated that neurofeedback training affected all dimensions of CPT and short diagnostic hyperactivity disorder (P<0.001).

Conclusion: The findings suggest the positive effect of neurofeedback training on treating attention problems and reducing the symptoms of hyperactivity in female students with hyperactivity and attention deficit in comparison with the control group.

Abstract

Abstract
Background: Oxidative Stress and mitochondrial dysfunction leading to apoptotic death of neurons play key role in the pathogenesis of the Parkinson's disease. On the other hand، misregulation of microRNAs can cause several neurodegenerative diseases. Sirt1 and Bcl2 as two key genes, regulate pathogenic processes in neurodegenerative diseases such as mitochondrial dyfunction, oxidative stress and apoptosis.
 Materials and Methods: To investigate the role of microRNAs in model of Parkinson's disease, miRWalk 2.0 and TargetScan (v7) databases were served to predict microRNA-target interactions.
Results: Possible targeting effects of different microRNAs on Bcl2 and Sirt1 genes in Rat organism were analyzed. Merging data from databases has shown that rno-miR-449a, rno-miR-182, rno-miR-211, rno-miR-34b, rno-miR-34c, rno-miR-448, rno-miR-466b and rno-miR-96 with strong possibility can inhibit expression of Bcl2 gene. Also, rno-miR-181, rno-miR-211, rno-miR-27a, rno-miR-449a, rno-miR-34c, rno-miR-30, rno-miR-200a and rno-miR-448can inhibit Sirt1 gene with high possibility.
Conclusion: According to the findings, it can be predicted that regarding to high interaction scores of rno-miR-211, rno-miR-34c and rno-miR-448 and 449awith Bcl2 and Sirt1 genes in above-mentioned databases, these microRNAs probably can have critical role in disease process. Thus, these microRNAs can be introduced as appropriate candidates for investigations in in vitro model of Parkinson's disease.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Children with cerebral palsy (CP) may have musculoskeletal disorder due to inappropriate position during sleep. The aim of this study was to design the equipment for sleep positioning of children with CP.
Materials and Methods: This research was a designing device study for sleep positioning of children with CP. The design was carried out in three stages: needs assessment, develop an idea and final design. Seventeen children with CP aged 2-12 year olds at the levels of III to V Gross Motor Function Classification System Expanded and Revised (GMFCSE&R) were recruited from Tehran and Karaj rehabilitation clinics by a convenience sampling strategy. For data collection, some demographic questionnaire and GMFCS E&R were used.
Ethical Considerations: This study was approved in Research Ethics Committee of Faculty of Applied Arts at Tehran University of Art with the code IR. ART U.REC.1394.118.
Findings: In the process of needs assessment, a researcher made questionnaire and pictures of sleep positioning children with CP when they were sleeping were used. In developing an idea stage, the free and creative ideas under the name of black box, as well as, Etudes at the transparency stage were presented as the combination of creative ideas. In the final design stage, by using superior materials, positioning and packaging, we achieved a superior design.
Conclusion: The proposed plan is designed as an interventional tool based on the need of Iranian children with CP and there is no similar national or international device available. The final design of the sleeping equipment includes a set of mattresses and a variety of modular styling devices based on a family centered approach, so that, allow parents to active engagement during sleep and rest of their children and can help the children to assume the proper positions.
